Personal fundraising and accountability

Brussels, 5 June. During his workshop on internet fundraising, Steve Bridger observed that people begin to expect more from charitiy organization than just being asked for donations. The future donor might just ignore the NGOs and will directly look for projects to contribute to. Examples of such projects are: Kiva, ChipIn, Change.org or justgiving. These features can of course also be used by organizations to do fundraising.

Steve mentioned an example of a successful funding activity by a private person, the water buffalo movie.

However, participants raised the issue of accountability: If everyone could do his/her own fundraising, there is a huge potential for fraud. Rosemary Wanjala from the International Humanist and Ethical Youth Organisation comments on this issue:
